Business Manager:
The
primary responsibilities of the Business Manager are to maintain the
overall operational efficiency and the fiscal health of Achievement
Preparatory Academy.
Essential Duties:
-
Bank reconciliations for various cash accounts
including cash flow analysis and projections
-
Ownership of general ledger system including
account reconciliations and journal entries
-
Development of monthly financial statements
including budget to actual analysis including variance explanations.
This responsibility includes reporting this information directly to
the Board of Trustees in the monthly board meeting
-
Monthly payroll processing with Paychex,
including payment of payroll vendors and journal entries
-
Development/maintenance of budgeting/forecasting
processes for school expense budget by department
-
Development/maintenance of accurate financial
records, accounting functions, internal controls, audit and tax
matters, and expenditures
-
Act as benefits coordinator including tracking of
personal time off and coordination of annual benefits enrollment
-
Coordination of annual financial audit and
various reviews by DC Public Charter School Board and District and
Federal Agencies
-
Tracking of grant receipts and expenses in
support of designated grant funding from private and public sources
-
Supervision of accounting assistant responsible
for accounts payable functions
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting or related field or an equivalent combination
of education and experience. CPA preferred.

A
minimum of 4 years accounting experience or relevant industry
experience (including management experience)

Thorough
understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and
procedures.

Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks and projects
simultaneously

Strong
analytical skills
-
Experience with budgeting processes and accounting systems,
QuickBooks for Nonprofits, strong PC skills including Microsoft
Excel and Word

Ability
to establish priorities, organize and plan work assignments

2009 - 2010 Special Education Teacher
The special education teacher will be part of a team which includes
related service providers, psychologists, social workers, administrators
and classroom teachers who work collaboratively to identify and provide
for students with special needs. The special education teacher
will be responsible for adapting curriculum to meet individual student
needs, supporting teachers in the implementation of strategies and
modifications, supporting students in and out of the classroom, and
developing and implementing IEPs. Though it is impossible to list
all roles the special education teacher will fill, specific job
responsibilities include:
- Designing effective lesson plans that allow students to attain
identified educational goals.
- Teaching classes as either a resource or inclusion teacher as
determined by students’ educational plans.
- Accelerating instruction for students and implementing an
academic plan which will give students the opportunity to graduate
at grade level.
- Working closely with professional peers to develop academic
accommodations and modifications for students with identified needs.
- Using data to analyze academic strengths and deficits and to
drive instructional support for students.
- Regularly communicating with families to share academic progress
and develop a supportive home-school relationship.
- Actively participating in collaborative academic planning
regarding school-wide academic targets.
- Representing the school at meetings related to students’
academic plans, including but not limited to eligibility and IEP
meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in special education required;
Master’s degree preferred
- Achievement of NCLB “Highly Qualified” standard
- At least two years of successful teaching experience as a
special education teacher in an urban environment.
